The Four Pillars

SUSTAINABILITY ON A HUMAN LEVEL

The BIMBACHE openART Project is an NGO drawing on a vast network of international organizations, artists, scientists, philosophers and spiritual teachers from various traditions, and constitutes an active extension of the El Hierro island government’s 100% sustainability project.
The WHO predicts stress disorders and depression to become the most serious health issues globally by 2020. At the same time, public consciousness of human sustainability issues is at a state comparable to the nascent understanding of ecology in the 1970s, urgently requiring propositions for practical investigation and solutions.

BIMBACHE openART promotes integration at a practical level and provides concepts for productive intercultural communication and for overcoming the enemy images and dualisms which separate us.
In BIMBACHE openART festivals, forums and other events, low judgment zoneswhich invite thinking ‘outside the box’ and seek to make the impossible possible, premier artists and thinkers, students, disabled persons, amateurs and locals meet and collaborate interdisciplinarily and as equals.

ANARIAS – CROSSING BETWEEN CONTINENTS

A LABORATORY FOR POSITIVE GLOBALIZATION

Artists from all continents and from a wide range of styles and traditions meet and come together in El Hierro, UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve and geographic crossroads between the continents, to create music for the twenty-first century – a fusion of world music, folklore, jazz, classical music from various cultures, electronic music, and more.
In its annual festival, multicultural encounters of 8-14 days, BIMBACHE openART provides the platform for the development of a common language and code of communication, an urgently needed model for a globalizing world which is getting smaller every day. Concurrently, the BIMBACHE touring ensemble’s repertoire for the respective next year is developed.

CANARIAS, LAND OF CULTURE:
TRADITON <-> VANGUARD

A STRATEGY FOR CONSERVING A UNIQUE CULTURAL HERITAGE

As part of its activities, the BIMBACHE Project creates unique and contemporary arrangements of the traditional repertoire of the archipelago and carries the cultural heritage of El Hierro and the Canary Islands to all continents. International editions of CDs / DVDs and tours of the BIMBACHE Festival Ensemble, which involves some of the most renowned Canarias singers and instrumentalists, are an ideal promotion mechanism for this export and place the Canary Islands on the map of World Music and Art.

EDUCATION AND INTERACTION

REGIONAL CONTEST • TRAINING LABORATORY • MASTER CLASSES • INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOPS AND EXCHANGE PROGRAMMS

As part of the activities of the BIMBACHE project, virtuosos and instrumentalists from a wide range of musical traditions from around the world offer their expertise in free workshops at international festivals and academies (2005-2009: Spain, Germany, China, USA and various others).
Following an open call, the annual festival invites artists from all over the world to come to the Canaries and interact with invited guests and residents of El Hierro.
The regional contest offers a forum for young musicians and invites the winners to share the experience of international activities of the BIMBACHE Festival Ensemble.
