...can the Human Condition be improved? and if yes, how?

VI International Bimbache openART Festival
July 25 – August 8, 2010

Programme (English)                                   Programa (Español)

A Laboratory for Sustainability on a Human Scale in El Hierro (Canarias), UN World Biosphere Reserve

endorsed by UNESCO
presented at EXPO 2008 and at Copenhagen Climate Summit 2009

Artists from all continents and from a wide range of styles and traditions are invited each july to come together in El Hierro, UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, to create music for the twenty-first century - a fusion of world music, folklore, jazz, classical music from various cultures, electronic music, and more. Dancers, paintors, sculptors and video artists are given the opportunity to create hybrid performances in collaboration with the musicians and to exhibit their work in the festival venues. All resident artists offer master classes in their respective fields of expertise - a unique opportunity to learn in-depth about a great variety of artistic and philosophic traditions from around the globe.

In its 6th annual festival and multicultural encounters, BIMBACHE openART once again provides a platform not only for the development of a common musical and artistic language, but also for a common code and rules of communication - an urgently needed model for a globalizing world growing smaller every day.

"As artists, we believe that aesthetics should not be a means to exclude and polarize, but to include and inspire. In this spirit, the music presented here is performed by musicians hailing from as many different cultural as artistic traditions in ever-varying constellations. The substance of the proven meets, mingles and toys with the urgency of the new, the yet illegitimate.

With remarkably little effort, many entrenched divisions are being bridged here: young and old, amateur and master musicians from five continents prove that there indeed i s a universal language, spoken by all who care enough to not mind the effort to seek what unites us rather than to indulge our competitive instincts, who understand that our mere humanity makes us all the same." - CD "La Condición Humana"

"a multicultural and pluralistic society will never be free of conflict.
the real question is whether this conflict is resolved by peaceful
means or violently."
